Runner

runnerRunner by Thomas Perry is the latest in a series of novels about a woman named Jane Whitefield.  Jane can make people disappear.  In other words, if you are in trouble and someone is trying to kill you, you find Jane and she will put you into a witness protection program of sorts.  She will change your name, give you a new identity-the whole deal.  You just have to follow the rules.  The problem is that Jane has a new life now.  She is married to a wonderful man and has settled into a quiet life, until Christine seeks her help.  What follows is an exciting tale of near misses and just-desserts.  This story kept me on the edge of my seat and was great fun to listen to.  I didn’t know that this book was part of a series when I first picked it up, but now I plan to read the stories leading up to this one.  My conservative rating is PG-13 for some language and a couple of sexual references.

A Dirty Job

Posted by Cece On April - 7 - 2009

dirtyA Dirty Job by Christopher Moore could be a fun book, if it weren’t so vulgar.  The story is about a man who unwittingly and unwillingly gets a job collecting “soul vessels” from the dead or dying. There are talking ravens, little animal “people”,  hell-hounds, and f**k puppets.  Yes, that’s right.  In fact, I think that there was one chapter where the author had a contest with himself just to see how many time he could say…the latter word combo.  The problem with the book is that the author is unbelievably vulgar.  So you are probably wondering why I finished it.  Well, I bought it from Audible (based on recommendations from their review section, none of which mentioned what I was in store for-at least not the ones I read).  Anyhow, I felt that since I bought it I should finish it because I would feel bad wasting the money,  and I was genuinely curious about how the story would turn out, also the narrator was entertaining.  I don’t recommend this book, however, unless you like vulgarity and perversion. Seriously.

Timeline

Posted by Cece On April - 7 - 2009

timelineTimeline by Michael Crichton is a sci-fi tell about a group of archaeologists who travel back in time to 14th century France.  The premise is far-fetched enough, but the book is filled with plenty of scientific jargon that make the ideas seem plausible.  If you are a fan of science fiction and action then I recommend this book. I listened to it on audiobook and it was great entertainment because the narrator did a great job with all of the voices.

I rate the book PG for some language, but there is not much so don’t let that deter you. It’s a fun ride.
