So Far and Yet So Near…
I love technology. If my dad had let me touch his computer when I was younger, I might have had a different career today! Anyways, one of the reasons that I enjoy it so much is because I get to see people who are far away…specifically my nieces. It’s great because if you have ever tried to talk to a 3 or 5 year old on the phone you know that it is no easy task, so the video chat makes it much more enjoyable. Here are a few screen shots I took from recent chats. (You can see me in the lower left corner!)

Kaiya’s 3rd Birthday
So, Kaiya turned 3 on October 18. I wanted to do something special so I took her and Mieko to Disneyland. We had a great time, but then I decided that it would be a good idea to take them on Pirates of the Caribbean since It’s a Small World was closed. They’re both boat rides…right? Ha! Listen, if you are taking toddlers to Disneyland, DO NOT, take them on Pirates of the Caribbean! The Happiest Place on Earth will quickly turn in to the most Terrifying
Place on Earth. As soon as we got on the ride Kaiya said that she wanted to go home, then when the ride started, she began crying, then Mieko started crying. After a while, they put their hands over their eyes and calmed down, but would peek occasionally. I tried to reinforce the feeling of safety by putting my hands over their eyes, but then they heard and interesting voice…DAVY JONES…
If you haven’t been on Pirates in a long time (or ever) they have they cool new thing where they project a video of Davy Jones on fog that billows from the top of an entrance that our boat must pass through. In other words, we sail straight through the image! So when the girls heard the voice, they looked up just in time to pass through it. They both started screaming. I know what you’re thinking. “How stupid can you be?” I know, but there were tons, TONS, of other little kids and babies on this thing and Christopher and Javona watch these movies all the time so I thought that the girls would be OK. So anyway, lesson learned. I made up for it by taking them on Jungle Book. After that they forgot all about the Davy Jones thing. Oops! Sorry mom and dad!
Here are some pictures anyway! And a SPECIAL thank you to Melissa Pascual for coming along to help me out. She was a trooper and I could not have done it without her!

Halloween 2008
So yesterday was Halloween and since Kaiya and Mieko are still here, I had the chance to take them trick-or-treating. First they dressed up in the costumes that Dawn bought them…so cute. Then we went to Mark and Kara’s house, well, first to their neighbors, the Lenins who had crafts, a jumper, and pizza for the kids. Then I took the girls trick-or-treating.

(The Joseph kids weren’t going this year, but they passed out some candy along with a cute book called Squanto. It’s about how God used Squanto the provide for the settlers. Every year they use Halloween as a witnessing time for the neighborhood.) So I took the girls and it was great…for me…because they only wanted to go to 5 or 6 houses then they wanted to go back and play with their friends. My feet were happy!
The girls had a great time, they had more fun in the jumper and chasing after their friends. Mieko had a scare, though, because there was a kid who was taller then her wearing a skeleton mask. She ran to me crying and said that, “That man was scaring me!” I took her over to meet the boy and she was better, but still wanted nothing to do with him!
