So I went to see The Secret Life of Bees last night with Cherice and Jackie. It was good. At first I didn’t think that I would like it. I thought it would be another one of those 1960’s pre-Civil Rights movies that remind black people more of the struggle than the victory.
And it was-in a way-but I liked it. I’m not going to spend time doing a whole plot synopsis and analysis cause you can go to Rotten Tomatoes for that. But, I will say that it was a sweet, melancholy movie that was ultimately uplifting, and it did serve as a reminder of the world that my mom came from and also that it has only been about 40 years since black people were accepted as full members of society. I am 37. Hmm.
Oh and I just found out that Queen Latifah is gay. Did you know that? I really had no idea!
